Girls’ Generation / SNSD – endless inspiration.

I was not into K-pop at all. Just like V-pop, I thought they all sounded the same: same voices, same rhythm. I didn’t understand what they sang so no comment on whether it was depressing or not, but I always felt frustrated listening to them for some reason. When X-Nicky was back to Vietnam at some point and suddenly got obsessed with it, I was like “Oh, please, no…” because it just meant he would have less time for US UK music.

Although I didn’t like K-pop, I did (and still do) watch K-movies and dramas. Then it hit me, K-music, started from K-soundtracks. All thanks to Taeyeon from Girls’ Generation/SNSD.

Taeyeon

Taeyeon

Of course if I only watched the dramas, I wouldn’t have known she’s from SNSD. However, her soulful voice through the two dramas (I didn’t watch them at once. Beethoven Virus first, Hong Gil Dong later) was enough to make me curious. Then I found more information about her, and naturally it led me to SNSD as a result. She’s known as the Kid Leader of this group which consists of 9 members.

The second member I noticed from SNSD was Jessica.

Jessica

That was because her voice is very special. Even if I don’t watch the video, it’s very rare for me to miss her part. Usually in a song, she’s together with Taeyeon sharing the high notes.

Then I got to know Sunny.

Sunny

I think it was because of her smile. I really like it when she smiles. She’s like a child with bright smile, makes people happy. Her voice is also quite childish, yet very feminine and attractive. She’s the lead vocalist in the group. Honestly, I don’t know what’s the difference between main vocalist and lead vocalist. :”)

Just a side information, she’s the niece of Lee Soo Man, the founder of SM Entertainment.

From Run Devil Run video clip, Tiffany caught my attention.

Tiffany

I would say she’s the most outstanding person in that video clip. As I said in my previous post, I don’t understand why I can’t recognize her face when all the team members are together in photos. If I see the video clips, I would have no problem at all. Weird, isn’t it? Oh, she’s also the lead vocalist.

Hyoyeon is kind of special.

Hyoyeon

She’s the main dancer of the group, as well as supporting vocalist. She’s not as popular as other group members, but she always has her own dancing part that gets my attention every time before the song breaks out in the end. For that moment, she’s the star.

I have to admit that I first recognize her because her face is somehow similar with Song Hye Kyo, but later on I don’t remember about it as much. Hyoyeon is also Nhung’s favorite SNSD member.

After Nhung’s favorite, let’s continue with Linh’s favorite: Sooyoung.

Sooyoung

Between us girls together, it’s pretty fun to talk about Sooyoung as the group member who has the longest legs :”). I actually didn’t notice her until last time when Nhung and I were watching SNSD video clips on YouTube, and Nhung kept saying “Long legs! Long legs!” and complimented about it every time Sooyoung appeared! Well… Other than that, she gives me an impression of a gentle person. : )

Yoona is another special case.

Yoona

I would say apart from Taeyeon, Yoona’s popularity is huge. She’s usually put in the center of the group and has the most screen time. Many people don’t get why she gets this special treatment, don’t understand why she’s so popular. Of course she’s super cute (her face, her voice) and her image is like a fragile princess, but is there anything else that could make her so different with other members? I don’t know. I remain neutral. I don’t hate her more nor like her more if it’s based purely on her popularity.

I don’t have many things to say about the last two members: Yuri and Seohyun.

Yuri

Seohyun

As said previously, they were the last ones I remember the faces. I think I remember Seohyun first because she looks like somebody who now I don’t remember anymore :”). From what I see, they are well-loved by their fans, too. : )

SNSD is the first girl group I remember all the members’ names, and also the one I like the most at the moment. They are fresh, happy. They are talented, they work hard, and they have fun, too.

This is SNSD when they first debuted in 2007.

Here are some SNSD videos I like a lot. It’s encouraged to watch the videos and spot the names of the girls. Try it, it’s fun! : D

First is Into The New World. I feel inspired and touched every time I watch it. This is also the first SNSD song, released as their debut in July 2007.

Girls’ Generation is their self-titled song as well as name of their self-titled album.

Gee – the video that feels the most SNSD. (And it sounds like my name, he he ~)

Oh! and Run Devil Run are supposed to come together as a whole story, but I don’t see much of connection here… : D As separate songs, they’re awesome!!

This is Run Devil Run with no relations with Oh!:

Then the current famous Mr. Taxi:

And my two favorite songs of SNSD with 2 male groups:

S.E.O.U.L (with Super Junior):

Cabi Song (with 2PM):

These are just some very obvious songs/videos whenever SNSD is talked about. It’s not exaggerating to say that I can watch SNSD videos the whole day. 9 girls with different voices and personalities, they appear as one on stage. Imagine how hard it must be to reach to the level of uniformity they have while dancing and moving around without being a mess. And remember all of the moves and sing at the same time. And they always smile. Just one sentence: I adore these girls.
